Wilyabrup Valley Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot 2016
Woodlands was established in 1973by David and Heather Watson, one of a small band of pioneers to plant vineyards in Margaret River, Western Australia. This wine is from their second vineyard, purchased in 1996 in the Wilyabrup Valley. There they farm organically producing miracles as they harvest vines without artificial irrigation. Stuart, son of David, is now the winemaker and thius wine is a testament to his talents.
After fermenting in steel, the wine matures in French oak barrels for 14 months, the juice being a blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 11% Malbec.
There is dark cherry on the nose, toasty French oak with a hint of rum and raison and a layer of red berry on the palate.
It'a rich, elegant, a wine with great aplomb and one you should sip merrily (with roast beef, if possible) and tell your friends about.
