Crozes-Hermitage La Matinière Rouge 2019 'Sunday lunch red at its best'
Crozes-Hermitage La Matinière Rouge 2019
Here's a 100% Syrah produced by Maison Ferraton which was founded in 1946 at a small holding in Hermitage. Jean-Orëns' son and descendants expanded the business and now - with a negociant arm - produces superior wines along the length of the Rhône Valley.
The grapes come from the districts of Mercurol and Aeaumont-Monteux, from vineyards planted on glacial alluvial deposits with a preponderance of rounded pebbles, stones and gravel.
After de-stemming, the grapes underwent a 20-day maceraction with frequent pumping over and punching down. Temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation was carried out in vat and the wine was then matured in oak barrels and vat for 12 months.
This is a reliable, silky Syrah. But there's a freshness too: a hint of violets and - along with black cherry - it has a long, beautiful finish.
Grab some bottles and cook a serious Sunday lunch in its honour.
