Codici Masserie Primitivo 2019 'Rich, velvety, a joy with roast, charred lamb'
Codici Masserie Primitivo 2019
Primitivo is a grape variety typically grown in the Puglia region of Italy, but now found across thre world in countries such a s Croatia and in the United States where it is called Zinfandel. The wines of Codici Masserie are from vineyards in the Salento region of Puglia and the landscape is painted by row after row of fabulous Primitivo.
After fermenting in steel the wine is aged in oak for a short period before bottling. This aggrandises the wine and brings a powerful flavour and a full body.
There are notes of dark fruit jam among red berry fruit but the palate is soft and well-rounded.
So it's rich, velvety - a Borolo for the masses (if you're with me) and one sip will get you reaching for a fat, charred and juicy steak (or if you're in the Puglian mood - a spit-roast joint of lamb). Happy days!
